Cucurbituril Receptor: a Versatile Host for Modulating the Molecular Properties of Chromophoric Dyes

چکیده

The molecular association through host-guest interaction of chromophoric dyes having technological and biological importance have been investigated with a macrocyclic receptor, cucurbit[7]uril (CB7). Exploiting host-guest (CB7rhodamine 6G) interaction, the construction of a highly efficient “water-based supramolecular dye laser” has been demonstrated. The CB7 imposed modulation of the protonation equilibrium of a dye, Neutral Red, and its effective relocation from a supramolecular cavity to a biomolecular pocket have been illustrated just by changing the ionic strength of the solution. It has been demonstrated that a CB7 encapsulated triphenylmethane dye exhibits a remarkable enhancement in its excited state activity on interaction with a protein, bovine serum albumin. The studies also established supramolecular assembly of CB7 moeities on porphyrin dye through non-covalent interaction.
